A large number of Rohingyas also went to Saudi Arabia. It’s believed that before the independence of Bangladesh, around two lakh Rohingya went to Saudi Arabia.
After liberation, Rohingyas also went to Saudi Arabia using Bangladesh passports.
A government official says: “we recently returned 200 Rohingyas who went abroad, using Bangladesh passports.
We are also working with a list of an additional 300 persons and the Saudi authority contacted us to take back 500 Rohingyas in different jails.
We have to bring them back since they traveled using Bangladesh passports, added the official.
During a Saudi-Myanmar discussion, the latter stated that Rohingyas were not her citizens.
Meanwhile, a senior Bangladeshi government official said: “Rohingyas are not citizens of Bangladesh and we cannot give them any status.”
