BCL clinches top posts in most hall unions

Voting continued at 16 residential halls from 8am to 2pm on Monday (Mar 11)Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is leading the polls to students’ union in Dhaka University residential halls, which has been marred by allegations of widespread irregularities and a blanket boycott.
Voting opened at 8am at 16 residential halls and ended at 2pm on Monday (Mar 11).
At Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall and Ruqayyah Hall, voting was deferred by several hours after students staged demonstrations over on allegation of stuffing ballot papers.
Over 43,000 voters got registered to elect 25 leaders of the central committee and 13 each of 18 hall unions.
BCL candidates have clinched 12 vice-president posts out of the 15 results announced so far.
They swept all posts at Ziaur Rahman Hall and Bijoy Ekattor Hall, and most seats, including vice-president and general secretary at Mohsin Hall, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Ziaur Rahman Hall, Zahurul Haque Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Salimullah Hall, Jagannath, and AF Rahman Hall.
At the female students’ dormitories Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall and Shamsunnahar Hall, and at male dormitories Amar Ekushye Halla, independent candidates came out as the vice-president.
Independent candidate Ricky Haider Asha won the vice president post at Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall while Sheikh Tasnim Afroze in Shamsunnahar Hall and Mehedi Hasan Sumon in Amar Ekushey Hall.
The results of the central committee will be announced after those from all the dormitories arrive.
