Voting for the DUCSU polls at Dhaka University’s Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall has started some three hours into scheduled time after it was suspended over allegations of ballot stuffing.
“Voting has started at 11:10am which will continue until 5:10pm,” Chief Returning Officer SM Mahfuzur Rahman told the media on Mondaty (Mar 11).
Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Samad said that the polls closing time will be extended if any voters are left to cast their franchise after 5:10.
Speaking on the ballot stuffing allegations, which led to the voting to be suspended, Samad said. “The provost has been withdrawn. A probe committee will be formed to look into the incident.”
Earlier, General students came up with the allegation saying that they recovered a sack of ballot from the reading room of the Hall on Monday morning which was stuffed overnight. Later in the morning, the students started staging protests against it.
Following the protests, Pro-Vice Chancellor Muhammad Samad and Proctor Prof AKM Golam Rabbani visited the spot.
