Nine 'drug-peddlers' killed in ‘shootouts’

Nine are killed in anti-drug shootouts all over the country and the police claimed that all of them are drug dealers.
On Thursday night, two were killed in Netrokona, one each in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Jhenaidah, Satkhira, Cox’s Bazar and Gaibandha.
All those ‘drug dealers’ were killed more or less in identically similar ‘shootouts’ when dealers first opened fire on lawmen after midnight, got killed when the police or RAB personnel fired back in retaliation.

Netrokona
Netrokona Model police station OC Md Borhan Uddin said, “The two dealers were killed in shootout when we had gone on a raid. In the incident, SI Jalil, ASI Zakir and Constable Wahid were injured.”
Two pipe guns, 700 grams heroin and over 3,000 yaba were recovered from the spot.
The injured police officers are being treated at Netrokona Sadar Hospital.
Police are yet to know the identity of the Netrokona drug dealers.
Dhaka
A ‘top drug trader’ was killed in a shootout with RAB in the capital on the early hours of Friday.
The so called gunfight took place at the BG press area in capital’s Tejgaon around 12.30 am, said Tejgaon Industrial Zone Police Station Sub-Inspector Mizanur Rahman.
Doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared him dead after being taken to there.
The person was identified as Kamrul Islam, 35.
The elite force’s spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan told Bangla Tribune that RAB team raided the BG Press school ground alley sometime around 12:30am following a tip-off of drug dealing.
RAB retaliated when the suspects began firing their guns and a man was found with bullet wound at the scene after the ‘gunfight’, the police official said.
Two personnel of RAB-2 were injured in the ‘gun battle’, he also added.
RAB found 3000 yaba pills, arms and ammunition from the spot.
Kamrul was accused in more than 15 cases under narcotics control law and convicted in some of those.
He controlled the drug business in Tejgaon railway slum and Sattala slum at Mohakhali, according to RAB Media Wing Director Khan.
Cumilla
Kamal Hossain alias Fenci Kamal, 51, was killed at Burichang upazila in Cumilla district at late hours of Thursday night. The police also arrested two ‘drug dealers’ from the spot.
Acting on a tip off, a team of police led by Burichong OC Monoj Kumar Dey and DB OC Nasir Uddin Mridha took position at Mohishmara area in Burichong upazila, said police sources.
Kamal Hossain and his accomplices were passing through the area and sensing police presence, drug traders opened fire on them. In retaliation, police also fired 34 rounds of bullets and Kamal was severely injured. Doctors declared him dead after he was rushed to Cumilla medical College Hospital, said the sources.
Burichong OC Monoj Kumar Dey said one pipe gun with with one round of bullet and 50 kgs of cannabis were recovered from the spot.
DB sub-inspector Nandan Chandr Sarkar, ASI Shahabul Hossain and Constable Sumon Miah were injured in the incident.
Mymensingh
The police killed one alleged drug dealer in Mymensingh during a ‘gunfight’ on the wee hours of Friday.
The ‘drug dealer’ was identified as Rajon who has several cases against him with police, said police sources.
Detective Branch OC Ashikur Rahman said “We raided Purohit Para area following information of drug trafficking. Sensing our presence the group opened fire at us and we also fired in reply.”
Police found bullet-hit Rajon and took him to the state-run hospital where he was announced dead by the physicians.
The law enforcers found 400 yaba pills, three bullet cases and some sharp weapons at the scene, Ashikur said.
Cox’s Bazar
Police in Cox’s Bazar claimed a drug peddler was killed in a ‘gun battle’ between two groups of drug traders at Maheshkhali.
The killed person was later identified as Mostak Ahmed.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Afrujul Huq Tutul said, “Police went to the area following information of a gun battle at Pahartoli area around 10.30 pm on Trursday.”
Later, police found Mostak dead on the scene.
The lawmen found 1,000 yaba pills, three guns at the scene, said the senior police officer.
Jhenaidah
Shamim, another top listed drug dealer, was killed in a shootout with police in Jhenaidah’s Kaliganj on Thursday night.
The victim was charged with several cases and a listed drug-peddler, according to the police.
Kaliganj OC Mizanur Rahman said that Shamim was taken to the Upazila hospital where doctors declared him dead after a ‘gun battle’ at the Wapda road area.
The law agency seized 17 bottle Phensidyl, 480 pills and a gun from the scene.
Satkhira
So called gun fight killed Yunus Ali, an alleged drug trader in Kolaroa Upazila in Satkhira on Thursday night.
The incident happened at Ramkrishnopur-Borali village when a gunfight erupted between two groups of ‘drug dealers’, said Kolaroa police OC Biplob Kumar Nath.
The victim was being tried as a fugitive in several drug cases, police also said.
The law enforcement agency found firearms and contraband drugs from the spot.
Gaibandha
Similar incident of ‘shootout’ caused death to a drug trafficker in Gaibandha’s Fulchori upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Jewel Mia, 45 hailed from Mistripara of the Upazila.
Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan Mia confirmed the incident.
Such ‘shootouts’ are carried out amid the concern of human rights organizations and opposite political parties which they termed as extrajudicial killing.
They are demanding an end to these extrajudicial killings.
