A general view of the Dhaka University Central Student`s Union (DUCSU) offices. BanglaTribune/Sazzad HossainThe general student council took the permission to use the Kuwait Friendship Hall from 7pm till 8pm on 7 March to introduce themselves ahead of the DUCSU polls but could not hold their event as Chhatra League had reportedly occupied the area.

However, Dhaka University Chhatra League President Sanjit Chandra Das said, “A written permission was taken for all Chhatra League events.”

Bushra Mishma, fourth year student of accounting and information system department and a member of the general student union, says, “We took permission to use the TV room from 7pm till 8pm on Thursday but found that Chhatra League had given a programme at 6.30pm, which ended at 8pm.”

We condemn such autocratic behaviour, said Bushra who was the candidate for general secretary but later supported another independent candidate Asifur Rahman.

Asifur Rahman says, “We took permission for the programme but despite waiting two hours, we could not organise the programme; such authoritarian behavior can only be responded through the ballot.”

I call on everyone to be with the power of the general students on the 11 of March, he said.
