Eleven days after a hijack attempt by a man, Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 ‘Mayurpankhi’ is all set for flight operation.
“The aircraft was sent for repairs and awaits civil aviation authority’s green light to fly again,” Biman spokesperson Shakil Meraj told Bangla Tribune on Tuesday (Mar 5).
The Biman public relation general manager said the aircraft is likely to resume operation from Wednesday (Mar 6).
On Feb 24, a man wielding a firearm, which authorities later said was a toy gun, hijacked the Dubai-bound plane mid-air on way from Dhaka to its stop-over in Chattogram.
Army commandos stormed the aircraft after all the passengers, pilot and crew members had disembarked at Shah Amanat International Airport in the port city.
The suspect, identified as Polash Ahmed alias Mahibi Jahan, was shot and declared dead shortly afterwards.
Following the incident, three members of Ansar and two security personnel at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka were suspended while an air force agent has been withdrawn for their alleged negligence in duty amidst questions as to how the suspect carried the toy gun.
