Prominent Indian Cardiologist Devi Shetty has reached Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to examine ailing Awami League leader Obaidul Quader.
A flight carrying Shetty landed the Dhaka International Airport around 12:45pm Monday when Professor Harisul Haque and Proctor Dr Syed Muzzaffar Ahmed received him.
BSSMMU Director Dr Abdullah Al Harun welcomed Dr Shetty at the hospital around 1:30pm and took him to CCU, where the Quader is kept under close observation.
The team of Singapore doctors, who were flown in on Sunday (Mar 3) to assess Quader’s health, are still in the capital.
Speaking on Quader’s condition, one of his doctors said that he is slowly improving, however, he is still not out of danger.
“We can say that his condition is gradually improving. However, he is not out of danger yet,” BSMMU Cardiology department Professor Dr Harisul Haque told Bangla Tribune on Monday (Mar 4).
Road Transport Minister Quader, who also serves as the ruling party secretary general was rushed to BSSMMU on Sunday (Mar 3) after he was having trouble breathing.
Later, doctors identified three blockages in his coronary artery through an angiogram and opened one.
At Sunday evening, a team of Doctors were flown in from Singapore to assess Quader’s condition, while an air ambulance were kept on standby to shift the ailing minister to Singapore should the BSSMMU doctors sign off on it.
Earlier on Sunday, BSMMU Vice Chancellor Kanak Kanti Barua briefed the media on Quader’s condition and said, “He blinked his eyes when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was visiting him and opened his eyes when President Md Abdul Hamid was visiting.”
Elaborating on the initial course of treatment Barua said, “Quader is responding. He had an angiogram and a stent has been used to remove his heart blockage. Blood circulation through artery has resumed. He will take time to recover the repercussion injury.”
A 19-member medical board, which has been formed for the senior Awami League leader’s treatment, will update the media on his health later on Monday afternoon.
