Awami League’s candidate Md Atiqul Islam has been unofficially elected the mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
As per the declared result of 1295 centres, he got a total of 849,302 votes.
The result was informed by returning official Abul Kashem.
Of the other three candidates, independent Md. Anisur Rahman Dewan with symbol mango got 6,151, Md Abdul Rahim with table clock 8,404 votes, PDP’s Shahin Khan with tiger symbol, 5,821 votes.
There were a total of 3.04 million voters.
Voting took place from 8am till 4pm on Thursday (Feb 28) and there were comparatively more voters in areas where new ward councilors were elected.
BNP and her allies boycotted the city corporation election.
