Expressing his dissatisfaction over the quality of roads, Minister Obaidul Quader said he wondered anyone would make roads that are damaged just after a brief rainfall.
His remarks came on Tuesday (Feb 19) while speaking to the media after meeting with officials of the Roads and Highways Division.
“Some roads get damaged just two or three months after construction,” the road transport and bridges minister said before adding the construction process is definitely faulty then.
Quader said officials have been told to ensure the quality of construction to build roads so that it lasts longer.
“Although the number of the country’s depilated roads has significantly decreased, but roads in several districts are still in bad shape,” he said.
Quader said the Roads and Highways Division has been ordered to prepare well for handling the Eid rush.
The second Khanchpur Bridge on Dhaka-Chattogram highway will be open by early March, Quader said, “The second Meghna and second Gomti bridges will be completed before the Eid-ul-Fitr.”
The newly-constructed Konabari-Chandra flyover, two railway overpasses and four underpasses in Gazipur will be also opened for the public before the Eid, added the minister.
