49 reserved seat candidates elected unopposed

EC’s Returning Officer Abul Kasem announced the unofficial result on Saturday (Feb 16) as none of 49 withdrew their nominations in the last date on Saturday and there was no constant in the race against them.
“The Gazette will be issued after announcing the official results on Sunday (Feb 17),” said Abul Kasem.
According to EC, as many as 43 AL League candidates submitted nomination papers against 50 reserved seats of the 11th parliament.
Four aspirants of Jatiya Party and one from Workers’ Party of Bangladesh also submitted their nomination papers.
The reserved seats for women are allocated to political parties in proportion to their number of seats in parliament.
Accordingly, 43 seats are allocated to AL, four to Jatiya Party, one each to BNP and Workers’ Party and another one to the independent candidates.
BNP filed no nomination paper as its MPs-elect are yet to take the oath of their offices
On Feb 3, EC announced the election schedule for the reserved seats.
Article 65 of the Constitution says that the 50 reserved seats exclusively for woman members will be elected by the elected parliament members. Only MPs who took their oaths of office are allowed to vote in the election for the women’s reserved seats.
