Local government will be strengthened through decentralization of power, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Annual budget will be formulated with district-based concept and through decentralization of power, the local government will be strengthened,” said Sheikh Hasina at a visit to the local government, rural development and cooperative ministry on Sunday (Feb 10).

She also instructed the ministry's officials to work more with proper planning for the development of the country.

She gave directions to create an upazila-based master plan and implement the projects immediately.

Sheikh Hasina also put emphasis on ensuring safe drinking water, sanitation, road development and public health.

“The country has been lagging behind repeatedly because of the violators of the constitution. They came to power only to change their own fate, not the destiny of the people.”

But the Awami League government came to power to bring prosperity for the people of the country as development plans are being implemented.

“Bangladesh is now a role model of development.”

The premier also directed government officials to work with sincerity and honesty.
