French Prime Minister Édouard Charles Philippe, on behalf of the French people and himself, congratulated Sheikh Hasina for being elected as the prime minister of Bangladesh for the fourth term, reports state news agency BSS.
French Ambassador to Bangladesh Ms. Marie-Annick Bourdin handed over a congratulatory letter of the French Prime Minister to Sheikh Hasina at her Sangsad Bhaban office in Dhaka on Thursday (Feb 7).
PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the call on of the French envoy with the Prime Minister.
In the letter, the French Prime Minister said the election held on Dec 30, 2018 has mobilized a large number of people as well as all the Bangladeshi political parties.
“The votes cast showed extent of aspiration of the Bangladeshi people,” Charles Philippe said in the letter.
The French Prime Minister applauded Sheikh Hasina for generously giving shelter to Rohingyas.
The ambassador discussed various issues of cooperation in the areas of economy, women development and climate change, the press secretary said.
The envoy said her country would continue to work with Bangladesh on climate change issue.
The prime minister thanked her French counterpart for congratulating her.
