Bangladesh has closed down its Myanmar border in fear of further influx.
“We have more or less closed down the border,” Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said on Wednesday (Feb 6).
He was speaking with journalists after meeting with Hollywood actress and UNHCR Special Envoy Anjelina Jolie and UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Christine Schraner Burgener at his office.
“We have opened up the border for many people. Now it is time other countries open up their border,” he said.
Over 1.1 million Rohingyas have taken shelter in Bangladesh to save their lives. Recently non-Muslim population is also crossing the border as Myanmar military is conducting operations against them.
Momen said we heard that Myanmar and Arakan army are locked in clashes and due to that Buddhist, Hindu and other ethnic minorities are trying to flee the country.
“We will not accept anyone,” he said.
