The government is in fear that fresh exodus may occur if the security situation does not improve in Rakhine.

In this backdrop, the government has expressed its grave concern over the recent inflow of non-Muslim people from Rakhine to Bangladesh.

Foreign Ministry Director General M Delwar Hossain on Tuesday (Feb 5) afternoon summoned Myanmar Ambassador to Dhaka Lwin Oo and handed over a note verbale protesting the latest inflow situation.

“The sentiment of Bangladesh has been conveyed to Myanmar,” said a foreign ministry official.

He said we have information that a good number of non-Muslim people have already entered Bangladesh and if the security situation continues to deteriorate, there is a fear of fresh exodus to Bangladesh.

Myanmar has been asked to take immediate steps to stabilize the situation in Rakhine, he said.

Bangladesh has asked its neighbouring country to stop violence and inflow of displaced people towards Bangladesh.

“We also asked them to stabilize Rakhine situation to avoid fresh round of exodus,” he said.

Since Aug 2017, over 0.7 million persecuted Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh to save their lives.
