Discussions are underway to bring all services of Bangladesh Railway under an app, said Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan.
His remarks came on Wednesday (Jan 30) during a views-exchange meeting jointly organized by the railway ministry and ICT Division.
The meeting addressed the issue of coming up with an integrated app that will literally bring railway services to the palm of one’s hand.
He said that the app will help prevent ticket sale in the black market in addition to improving services for the public.
“We are jointly working to build a beautiful, modern and technology savvy country,” Sujan said.
“Development is impossible without technology and its use will prevent black market sale as well as give the passengers a well-rounded service,” he added.
Through the integrated app, people will be able to book their desired seats as well as pay for their tickets. Not only that, they can use their phones to check on a train’s location at a station, distance from destination, local transport etc.
During their travels, passengers will be able to order food or reach the railway police immediately should any untoward incident arise.
Moreover, people will special needs will be able to access and use the app with ease.
The system will incorporate the web application, call centre and SMS service and the ICT Division’s Access to Information will provide all technical support.
The minister called for the related offices and ministries to implement the ICT Division’s proposed system and assured them of providing his full support.
