AL’s Khaque takes the lead in KCC polls

Awami League’s mayor candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek shows V-sign as he leads the Khulna city polls.Awami League’s mayor candidate has taken a lead in Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election.
Results of as many as 163 polling centres was out till the filling of this report around 12am. AL’s candidate Talukder Abdul Khalek was leading the race with securing 94,352 votes while his nearest rival BNP’s Nazrul Islam Manju got 59,458 votes.
Supporters of Khalek were seen celebrating and distributing sweets at different points of the city.
Grief started spreading in camps of others three mayoral runners including BNP’s Manju’s when officials from election control room began disclosing the results at around 8pm.
Large numbers of AL supporters were seen waiting for polls result in front of the control room.
“We celebrate as Khalek’s victory is certain,” Yasin Saki, a leader of AL Khulna district unit, told Bangla Tribune.
Sources said Khalek was seen in the nearby area of the control room at Sonadanga Sports Complex while Monju stayed at the party office.
