Describing the Khulna City Corporation polls as ‘splendid and peaceful’, the Election Commission has dismissed the BNP’s allegations of rigging.
“Out of the 289 centres, voting was stopped in three due to irregularities. But everything was perfect at the remaining centres. The polls were held peacefully amid festivity,” said EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
Speaking to the media in Dhaka after the polls closed, he said that they have constantly monitored the election through reports from the ground as well as from the media. “The only irregularities reported in media were from those three centres.”
The EC official dismissed BNP’s allegations said that the election officials at the ground did not find them to be true.
“Untoward incidents erupted outside some centres, but the police and the executive magistrates stepped in to solve those,” said EC Secretary Ahmed.
