Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has warned her Cabinet members of retaining their honesty in their duties otherwise face severe consequences.
Her remarks came during the first meeting of the Cabinet on Monday (Jan 21).
“I have included you in the Cabinet despite many criticisms. It’s up to you to work with dedication and honesty to ensure that I was not wrong in trusting you,” she said.
Hasina added that if they focus on accumulating wealth through their positions, they will eventually face the repercussions.
According to sources, Hasina said that this was the biggest change in the Cabinet so far and has only done so out of trust on the new lawmakers.
After the meeting, several Cabinet members told Bangla Tribune that Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen proposed to make the usage national flag on cars open to everyone and not just for the cabinet members.
They said that she immediately shot down the proposal saying that using the national flags on cars should be banned altogether.
More than one source revealed that Minister for Housing and Public works SM Rejaul Karim proposed a model city by the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman around his birthplace Tungipara.
He said that similar to America’s Washington DC and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Min City, Bangladesh should have a city named after the nation’s hero.
Meanwhile, Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury proposed to name the tunnel being constructed under River Karnafuli after Bangabandhu.
Hasina has formed a Cabinet for an unprecedented third consecutive term after the Awami League-led Grand Alliance’s landslide victory in the Dec 30 polls.
