Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addresses the joint meeting of Awami League Advisory Council and Central Working Committee at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office in Dhaka on Saturday (Jan 12).The Awami League has made it clear to the nation in the last 10 years that the party’s sole objective is to serve the nation, says its chief Sheikh Hasina.
“The people chose us in the last election as the Awami League has been able to establish that it’s only goal is to improve their lives,” she said on Saturday (Jan 12)
In her opening speech at the joint meeting of the party’s Advisory Council and Central Working Committee at the Bangabandhu Avenue headquarters, Hasina expressed her gratitude to nation for putting their trust and confidence on them once again.
The landslide win has increased the party’s its responsibility to the people a lot, she said.
Hasina has formed the government for an unprecedented fourth term and a straight third term after the ruling Grand Alliance won 287 of 299 seats in the 11th National Election.
The most remarkable thing of the Dec 30 election was the enthusiasm of voters, especially the youth, new voters and women, in casting their votes, according to the prime minister.
She mentioned that the election was very much peaceful although BNP-Jamaat alliance snatched ballot papers and boxes in some places and hatched conspiracies to foil the election.
"But they failed and BNP suffered defeat in the election…this is their failure… they have to blame themselves for this," she said.
Members of Awami League Advisory Council and Central Working Committee participate in a joint meeting at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office in Dhaka on Saturday (Jan 12).Although BNP suffered the defeat for lack of leadership, the scenario might have been better had they not indulged in nomination trade, said the Awami League chief.
"They (opposition alliance) have to accept the defeat in the election as they were incapable to pick their leader, lost the support of people for their politics of killing. BNP lost the election for running the party by an absconding fugitive," said Hasina.
Bangladesh will celebrate the golden jubilee of Independence and birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from March 2020 to March 2021 locally and internationally, the prime minister announced at the event.
On her administration’s plans for this term, Hasina said they will be emphasising on providing urban facilities to the rural population.
“We always focus on improving the lives of the rural population and all of our development initiatives are designed keeping that in mind,” said the prime minister.
