Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the undisputed leader of the nation and supreme commander of the country’s great Liberation War, returned to the sacred soil of independent Bangladesh via London and New Delhi on Jan 10 in 1972, after 290 days of captivity in Pakistan jail.

Pakistani occupation forces arrested the architect of the country’s Independence on Mar 25, 1971 from his Dhanmondi residence during their late night crackdown on the people of Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) and sent him to the then West Pakistan.

The return of the Bangabandhu later appeared to be crucial in the subsequent political history of Bangladesh and re-established the spirit and norms of the Liberation War in the country.
