The gazette notification containing the outcome of the 11th National Election has reached the Parliament and the oath-taking ceremony for new Members of Parliament (MP) will take place on Thursday (Jan 2).
A Parliament Secretariat official confirmed that the current Speaker, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, who has been elected, will take her oath first and then swear in the other elects.
The constitution dictates that the Speaker has to swear herself in before making the elects read their oaths.
After the oath taking ceremony, the government and opposition MP-elects will announce their leaders in Parliament.
The Awami League-led Grand Alliance won 288 seats in the polls. The voting for Gaibandha-3 had to be rescheduled due to the demise of one of the candidates’ while the commission has suspended the voting in three polling stations in Brahmanbaria.
