Will probe Noakhali gang rape allegations: HRC chief

Human Rights Commission Bangladesh Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque speaking to the media on Tuesday (Jan 1)National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh has said that it will probe the vote related gang-rape of a woman in Noakhali.
The commission will speak to the local administration and take necessary steps, Kazi Reazul Hoque, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission told the media on Tuesday (Dec 1).
According to media reports, a 35-year-old woman was gang-raped on Sunday (Dec 31) in Noakhali's Subarnachar, allegedly by Awami League activists.
The victim who is undergoing treatment at the Noakhali General Hospital claimed that she was raped for casting her franchise for BNP’s electoral symbol ‘paddy sheaf’ during the Dec 30 polls.
The human rights commission said that it has so far received 52 complaints during the national polls and said that Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed has been asked to take immediate steps against the complaints.
