Observers of India, Nepal, SAARC and Islamic Organisation for Cooperation (OIC) have endorsed the 11th Parliamentary Election held on Sunday (Dec 30).
After visiting several centres they talked with journalists at hotel Sonargaon in the afternoon.
Head of three-member Indian delegation and Chief Election Officer of West Bengal Ariz Aftab said they visited several centres and found that the voting took place in a proper manner and festive mood.
He said they are in contact with Bangladesh Election Commission and that’s why they came here to observe it.
Subscribing the same view, OIC delegation head Ambassador Hamid A Opeloyeru said, the election was going on spontaneously and peacefully.
They visited several centres at Wari, Munshiganj and Narayanganj.
When asked about poll-related killings, he said it is not desirable but the incidents can be termed as ‘accidents.’
It is mentionable here, 18 people were killed in Sunday’s election.
He said they saw polling agents of Awami League, BNP, Jamaat and Communist Party at the centres.About the credibility, he said election officers had done their jobs so that voters could exercise their voting rights.
As the international standard is fulfilled, it can be said that it is credible, he said.
In the evening head of Nepal delegation, Dipendra Kandal told journalists that they visited several centres in Dhaka-6 and 13 as they had interest in the electronic voting machine system.
He said, Bangladesh introduced the EVM system on a pilot basis and they found that the election environment was peaceful. Meanwhile, in the morning member of SAARC delegation and a Canadian national Tania Foster told the media that they visited five centres.
She said everyone was getting access to polling centres to able to cast their votes.
All officers were doing their great jobs to ensure people’s voice be heard, she said.
