Rohingya CrisisBangladesh finds positive aspects on open discussion on Rohingya issue held in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday. More than one official said that countries like China or Russia who did not speak on this issue earlier; they are also discussing this after international pressure. Even they did not stop discussing this issue in the UNSC.
A diplomat, unwilling to reveal the name said, ‘Myanmar got less support than what they thought.’ 'Myanmar is lying to the whole world. China and Russia are no exceptions in this matter. But after the discussion in UNSC, the statements of these two countries are changing. It would have been convenient if these changes happen faster’, he added.
The diplomat further said, ‘Now the repression on Rohingya is so massive that it cannot be hidden anymore. The incident will be investigated. One day everyone will know this. It cannot be overlooked by anyway. The incident will be published by journalist or United Nations or any other agency and Myanmar will face its negative impact. He also said, ‘The government is finding the positive aspects of the open discussion in UNSC on the Rohingya issue.’ He feels that Myanmar is somewhat flexible due to international pressure.
The diplomat said, ‘The evidence of the violence in Myanmar is being collected every day.’ This evidence will always put pressure on Myanmar. One day proof of ethnic cleansing will be exposed. On the complexity of Hindu killings, he said, 'the people who have done this will also come in the light one day. It will be difficult for those countries to maintain support to Myanmar which is currently supporting them. The solution of the crisis will be easy if the issue of torture is published and the history of Rohingyas is properly highlighted.
Asked about this, another diplomat said, "Myanmar always kept itself wrapped apart from the whole world. They were gradually exposing themselves since 2010. But the contrast is now seen, depending on just a few countries now they are not caring about the whole world. Rohingyas do not have any identity or education, and because of this, it has been easier for Myanmar to destruct them. Myanmar is using ASEAN to get support from Indonesia, but, at the same time, they are using religion to get support from Buddhists. Similarly, they are using the economy to get support from China, Russia or India. Thus Myanmar has been able to create unrest.
Munshi Faiz Ahmed, a Former ambassador to China, told the Bangla Tribune, ‘We have taken some sharp and accurate efforts in the UN to maintain international pressure on Myanmar. As a result, we are getting some benefits. But we have to wait for the desired results.’ He said, ‘We have to maintain regular contact with them to maintain international pressure and to imply the proposals on Rohingya issue. We will have to try multilateral efforts to a safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingyas.

Shahidul Haque, a former attache of Myanmar, said, ‘We have to keep in touch with both the ways.’ He also said, "Bangladesh will have to try to impose a targeted block on some people of Myanmar. It is not possible to impose through UN but with the pressures of the state levels. For example, he said, 'The USA is interested in this. There is a law to block a person. A few days ago, several senators of USA have called on the United States government to impose the blockage on people involved in crimes in Myanmar.’
It is to be noted that more than five lakh Rohingyas fled to Bangladesh after the ruthless torture began on August 25 in Rakhine. Thousands of Rohingyas died due to the torture of Myanmar army. Despite the worldwide condemnation, Myanmar did not stop the atrocities on the Rohingyas. On this issue, the UNSC has two rounds of closed doors meetings and an open discussion yesterday.
