Poet Habibullah Siraji has been appointed as the new director general of Bangla Academy.
On Wednesday, (Dec 19), the Public Administration Ministry appointed Siraji for next three years, sources at Bangla Academy told Bangla Tribune.
Speaking to media after joining the office on Thursday (Dec 20), Siraji sought cooperation from the organization’s staffers.
“It feels good. We will be prepared a set of instructions after discussing with the co-workers to run the organization’s activities well,” he said.
Born in Faridpur on Dec 31, 1948, Siraji has written 32 books of poetry along with novels, essays and memoirs.
He played a leading role in the formation of the National Poetry Council in the 1980s
Siraji received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1991 and Ekushey Padak in 2016.
