Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed has written to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) seeking additional security.
A letter, signed by Ahmed’s personal secretary Md Al Mamun, was sent to the DMP commissioner on Monday (Dec 3).
The DMP’s Protection Division now provides Ahmed with a gunman for his security.
The letter reads, “It has become essential to beef up protection for the EC secretary ahead and after the election. Therefore, another bodyguard armed with a shotgun is necessary.”
“The authorities concerned have been asked to make necessary arrangement immediately on the matter,” it adds.
