‘Village police’ on polls-duty for first time: EC

The Election Commission has decided to deploy the ‘village police’ for the first time during the upcoming national election, says EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
“We’ve taken a new decision, which is we are going to post village police on polls-duty,” Ahmed said on Tuesday (Nov 27).
Speaking to media after a meeting with law enforcement agencies at the EC’s city office, Ahmed said, “We discussed on their budget and asked them to place their proposal by a week.
“The Ansar forces will receive full-allocation in advance while other forces will get half for now,” he said.
On Nov 12, the EC rescheduled the general election setting the voting day for on Dec 30 with the deadline for the nomination pushed back to Nov 28 and the last day to withdraw at Dec 9.
In a televised address to the nation on Nov 8, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda announced the schedule setting Dec 23 as election day.
