Senior police officials in charge of polls time monitoring cell

The 11th Parliamentary Election is scheduled to be held on Dec 30, 2018. FILE PHOTODividing the whole country into four sections, Bangladesh police will maintain law and order through monitoring and a coordination committee.
A law and order monitoring coordination committee has been formed with the IG of police as president. According to the order of the police headquarters, DG of RAB, Benzir Ahmed and highway police DIG, Md. Atiqul Islam, will look after Rajshahi and Rangpur ranges.
Dhaka, Gazipur and Mymensingh will be looked after by DMP commissioner, Md. Asaduzzaman Mian and DMP special deputy commissioner, Proloy Kumar Joardar. Khulna and Barishal will be looked after by SB’s additional IG, Mir Shahidul Islam and DMP’s additional commissioner, Md. Monirul Islam.
Chittagong and Sylhet ranges will be looked after by AIG of anti-terrorism unit, Shafiqul Islam and DIG of police HQ, Habibur Rahman.
An order of the police headquarters which specified the election time responsibilities of the senior officers also said that all administrative and logistic support will be provided. Cell committee can also co-opt an official if needed.
The work scope of the police during elections include: maintenance of law and order, giving directions to field level officials, keeping constant contact with field level officers, supporting other law enforcers and election officers, taking swift steps to tackle any untoward incident etc.
Sohel Rana, AIG (media) of the police HQ, says, “Such committees have been formed before elections in the past and, this time, the cell will do its duty properly.”
