EC assures of level playing field before campaign kicks off

Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed was speaking to the media at the Commission’s offices in the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday (Nov 21).Amid allegations that there’s a lack of level playing field ahead of the national polls, the Election Commission say it will be ensured before the process to allot symbols to candidates begin.
Its Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed’s assurance came on Wednesday (Nov 21) while speaking to the media at the Commission’s offices in the capital’s Agargaon.
He said that a key meeting on law and order situation is scheduled for Thursday (Nov 22) with senior law enforcers.
“The EC will provide an outline of measures needed to ensure pre and post election security. Matters like illegal firearms, voters from the minorities, security for female voters as well as election official will be discussed in the meeting,” Ahmed said.
Thursday’s meeting will also discuss ways to ensure peaceful pre-polls atmosphere as well as security plans for Election Day and measures to ensure equal opportunity for all aspirants.
On the BNP’s letters over demands and bottlenecks to ensure level playing field, Ahmed said, “The issues have been forward to the Commission, which will discuss it in a meeting on Thursday.”
