As many as 10 people have been killed and five others injured in Bangladesh as lightning and storm struck across the country on Sunday.
Lightning killed five people in Sirajganj, three in Magura and one each in Brahmanbaria and Naogaon, reports correspondents.
A father and son were among the victims in Sirajganj.
Kazipur resident 55-year-old Shamsul Mandal was working at his farm with his 14-year-old son Arman when lightning struck them. They died while being taking to the local hospital.
Another death was reported from the district’s Kamarkhand, where 37-year-old Kader Hossain died while working at his farm.
Two other deaths from lightning have been reported from Sirajganj, but details are yet to be available.
In the southwestern district of Magura, three people died during the storms.
Sub Inspector Ashraf Hossain told Bangla Tribune that a rickshaw van driver, identified Shamim, 40, was struck by lightning while driving his been. Another death was reported from Raigram, where one Alam Mia died.
The third death in the district was reported from Shalikha Upazila, where 25-year-old Mehedi Hossain was struck while he was working on a mobile phone tower. He was rushed to the state-run hospital in Magura town where the doctors declared him dead.
Lightning left one killed and two others injured in Brahmanbaria. The deceased had been identified as Abdru Rahim, 50, said police.
A 22-year-old woman died in the northern district of Naogaon during the storms on Sunday morning.
The incident was reported from Sapahar Upazila.
Local police OC Shamsul Alam said victimSonabhan was cooking on an open stove at her home’s yard, when the lightning struck leaving her dead. Her husband and three others have been hospitalised with burn injuries.
