The schedule for the 11th National Election will be announced on Nov 8, says the Election Commission.
The decision came on Sunday from a meeting led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
“It has been decided that the schedule will be announced on Nov 8 (Thursday). The CEC will make the announcement during his address to the nation,” Election Commissioner Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury told the media.
Responding to query, he said they initially planned to announce the schedule on Nov 4 (Sunday), but decided on Nov 8 after ‘weighing all the facts’.
“We will fix the day of voting according to a standard time, which may be something like 45 days,” said Commissioner Chowdhury.
Sources at the EC, however, said the voting will be held before the Christmas (Dec 25).
Any decision on deploying the army for the election is yet to be made, said the election commissioner.
On introducing e-voting, he said, “EVMs (electronic voting machines) will be used on a limited scale in the parliamentary election. But the details are yet to be sorted.”
