He told Bangla Tribune that the exams have deferred considering additional difficulties caused by the planned rally at the capital’s Suhrawardy Udyan in the morning.
“(Qawmi madrasa) students from across the country will travel to Dhaka, which may cause the students, who are taking the (JSC, JDC) exams, to suffer on their way to the exam centres,” said Nahid.
The 'Shukrana Mahfil', or thanksgiving rally has been organised on behalf of the 1.4 million students at the nearly 14,000 Qawmi madrasas across the country to thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Hifazat-e Islam chief Shah Ahmad Shafi will preside over the event.
The Awami League administration recently recognised the highest educational level at Qawmi madrasas (takmil) as equivalent to a postgraduate degree.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police had advised students and guardians in the Suhrawardy Udyan area and those who were to take their examinations in nearby areas to account for the rally and make travel arrangements accordingly.
Earlier in the day, Assistant Secretary to the Education Ministry Nazmul Haque Khan told Bangla Tribune that the exams were postponed due ‘unavoidable circumstances.’
The exams will be held on 9am Friday, he said.
A little over 2.67 million eighth-graders are taking the tests this year at nearly 3,000 centres across the country. The exams began on Thursday (Nov 1) and will end on Nov 15.
