Monogram Of Bangaladesh GovernmentPreparations for the formation of the Department of Children Affairs are in the final phase. This department will be formed at the beginning of the year 2018. The proposed Department will work in coordination with government and non-government organizations to protect child rights, children's development and mental development. Bangladesh Shishu Academy, which works for children, will work under this department.

In this context, on Thursday (September 14th) the State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki said to the Bangla Tribune, ‘We have progressed a lot to form this Department. By the end of this year or at the beginning of next year, the formation of the Department will be finalized.’

According to sources of the ministry, though the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs took initiatives in the mid-2016 to establish the department, they couldn’t finalize their decisions at that time. At that time, the Ministry also took the initiative to formulation the Shishu Academy act. But as the necessity of formulating separate department emerged, ministry lagged behind from making the act.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy was established in 1976 in order to develop the children as qualified citizens and to develop their physical, mental, cultural and latent talents. Different concerned organizations alleged that time, bureaucratic complexities might rise if this traditional institution is brought under an act. After the establishment of the Department of Children Affairs, Shishu Academy will work under it. According to the sources of the ministry, this department will be established coordinating other government organizations which work for the children. The Department will also play a role in helping and encouraging the private child organizations.
