The ICT infrastructure of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, DGFI, will be modernised with a project worth Tk. 1272 crore 29 lakh, informed sources at the planning ministry.
Once implemented, the project will increase the cyber intelligence capability of DGFI and detecting crimes plus militant conspiracies will be easier.
The project will be implemented by the intelligence division under the defence ministry.
Slated to be completed by 30 Jun, 2021, the project was approved at the ECNEC.
A wide variety of equipment will be purchased and added to 23 units of DGFI in eight divisions of the country.
Since cyber-crimes have risen and have embarrassed many governments, this initiative is aimed at protecting Bangladesh from possible high tech crimes plus militant acts based on cyber technology.
DGFI, established in 1977, is now one of the finest intelligence agencies of the country. The agency plays an instrumental role in warning the government in advance of any domestic and foreign security threats. Keeping that in mind, Ministry of Defence has taken the initiative to modernise the existing ICT infrastructure so that the security is ensured for everyone from root level citizens to the very top of the government.
Planning minister, A H M Mustafa Kamal, told Bangla Tribune: “if the project is implemented then the IT capability of DGFI will increase.”
Modernisation of the department is essential, he added.
