This will be the message that Dhaka likes to give when Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque will sit with his Myanmar counterpart Myint Thu at the joint working group meeting on Tuesday morning.
“We want to start the voluntary repatriation process as soon as possible and it can only be happen when the concerns of the Rohingyas will be addressed,” said a government official.
It is not possible for Bangladesh to address the concern as Rohingyas will live in Rakhine under the jurisdiction of Myanmar authorities, he pointed out.
Both the foreign secretaries will fly to Cox’s Bazaar Wednesday to interact with the Rohingya community.
Another official said, “We encourage this type of interaction as it will help to remove the concern of Rohingya community.”
One or two hours interaction will not remove the concern and we want similar type of meetings in the coming days, he added.
He said Rohingyas have concerned over the national verification card (NVC), freedom of movement, settlement plan, safety and security and pathway to citizenship.
In all those areas Myanmar has to assure the Rohingya community that they will be treated fairly, he added.
