As many as 62,244 villages fully and 14,647 villages partly out of 83,819 villages were brought under electricity coverage under Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) jurisdiction across Bangladesh, says State Minister for Power Energy Nasrul Hamid.
“The government is implementing 15 projects constructing 84,000 kilometer power cables to bring another 6,928 villages under full coverage while another 14,647 villages is partially under electricity coverage,” Hamid told the House in reply to a question from lawmaker Didarul Alam on Thursday (Oct 25).
BSS quoted the minister as saying, “The government has undertaken plans to improve power distribution management including ensuring required fund in the power sector under annual development programme, ensuring 100 percent progress in annual development programme, using alternative fund along with modern and new innovation financing in the power sector.”
“Under the plan, the government would increase capacity of transmission and distribution lines to 21,000 circuit kilometers and 470,000 kilometers by 2021” Hamid informed the House.
