There have been no discussions regarding the announcement of the schedule or date of the national elections, says Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed.
Speaking to the media on Thursday (Oct 25), he called people to refrain from spreading rumours.
Dismissing media reports on probable polls date and announcement of schedule as rumours, he said the EC will be meeting President M Abdul Hamid on Nov 1. “Any decision regarding the polls schedule and date will be taken after that.”
He also told the media that it is not yet definite whether a Commission meeting will be held on Nov 4.
“We expect the elections to be held by December. We can’t say anything definitely because one of the ECs is out of the country as you well know,” Ahmed said when asked about a tentative polls date.
Regarding the amendment of the Representation of the People’s Order (RPO), he said there is a good chance of enacting it through an ordinance, if it’s not passed during Parliament’s ongoing session.
“However, we are hopeful that it will be tabled in ongoing Parliament session,” he said.
