The Election Commission (EC) will meet President Md Abdul Hamid on Nov 1 before it announces the schedule for the 11th parliamentary election.
Press Secretary to the President Jainul Abedin told Bangla Tribune that the meeting has been scheduled at 4pm that day.
Sources at the EC said, the election commissioners will discuss the schedules of the 11th National Election with the head of the state.
The EC wants to complete the formalities for the election, the countdown for which begins on Oct 30.
EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed told the media on Sunday that the commission is yet to finalise the date of voting.
“The Election Commission will fix the date in a meeting after the Nov 1 Bangabhaban meeting. The schedule will be announced after the president nods it,” he said.
According to the Constitution, election for the 11th parliament must be held within 90 days of the expiry of the 10th parliament. Accordingly, the next general election has to be held between Oct 30 and Jan 28.
The EC has already said the schedule will be announced in the first week of November to hold the election at the end of December.
