The 23rd session of the current parliament began on Sunday with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, which will end on Oct 25.
This session is likely to be the last session of the 10th parliament as there is no obligation to summon any session of parliament during the national election according to the constitution.
Prior to the start of the session, the business advisory committee of parliament met with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair to fix the duration and businesses of the coming session. It was decided that the session will end on Oct 25.
The Election Commission has already said it will declare the schedule for the 11th National Election in the first week of November.
On October 4, President Abdul Hamid convened the session exercising his power bestowed upon him by article 72 (1) of the Constitution.
The 10th parliament went into its maiden session on Jan 29, 2014.
