The Anti-Corruption Commission has questioned ruling MP Atiur Rahman Atik in a probe into allegations of acquiring wealth beyond known income sources.
Atik, who is a Whip at Parliament, appeared at the graft watchdog’s offices on Tuesday.
An ACC team quizzed the Awami League lawmaker from Sherpur for four hours.
Atik stands accused of abusing his office and acquiring real estates and luxurious vehicles.
Speaking to the media later, Atik claimed that he had taken bank loans.
“I have practices politics honestly,” he said before adding that the allegations aimed to taint his image.
ACC Secretary Shamsul Arefin said their investigations are not aimed at harassing anyone. “The allegations were brought three years ago, but the probe was stalled due to a High Court order, which has been now cleared.”
