Final preparations are underway at the Election Commission, EC, for the national elections. The commission secretariat has already done most of the work to declare the election schedule. A draft speech of the chief election commissioner over declaration of schedule has already been finalized.
On 15 October next, all preparations will be highlighted at the commission’s office along with the primary declaration of election date, say election commission sources.
Presided by chief election commissioner, K M Nurul Huda, a meeting is supposed to be held on the morning of 15 October with the main objective of informing the commission of the upcoming 11th national elections.
EC secretary, Helaluddin Ahmed, told the media: “at the meeting, the commission will be informed of the progress in making voter lists, demarcation, ballot paper and other relevant issues.”
In mid-September, Helaluddin Ahmed told the media that 80 per cent work was already complete.
It’s believed that the schedule will be declared any day after 31 October.
Commission sources say that determining the demarcation of 300 parliamentary seats, finalising of 40199 voting centres and 2 lakh 6 thousand 540 voting booths, seals, pads, ink have all been done with necessary training given to poll time officials.
Meanwhile, election commission will finalise polls time manual and guideline after amendment to the Representation of the People Order, RPO.
EC officials say that according to the constitution, the 11th national parliamentary election will be held between 31 October and 28 January
