Bangladesh Police (Photo: Wikipedia)The police department wants promotion in the supernumerary system which exists in the administration cadre.
A letter has been sent to the home ministry to promote 495 persons from police superintendent to Additional Inspector General (AIG).
In this regard, a seven member committee has been formed though it has not given any report.
Expressing discontent, police officers expecting promotion, said: “the whole matter will be caught in an impasse once the electoral government is formed.”
We want this issue settled before the current government is dissolved, they said.
On Jul 4 last, a letter signed by SM Akhtaruzzaman, Aditional DIG of the police headquarters, was sent to the home ministry.
Additional IG (media) Sohel Rana, says, “The issue is still in process and no final decision has been taken as yet.”
The letter states that Bangladesh police plus the administration cadre are both important sectors, which have a symbiotic relation and both represent the government on the field. Then the letter highlights the posting deficiencies at the higher level of the police service.
It’s found that the supernumerary promotion has been discussed at the police headquarters for some time and the issue was explained to the PM by the IG of police and the home secretary.
The prime minister also gave verbal approval though the issue is stuck in bureaucratic red tape.
One official, expecting to be promoted to police super, says, “We have already served 13 years on the job; while other colleagues in different cadres have got promotion, we are still stuck.”
If the promotions do not come by October, then the process will be delayed by another six months due to national elections, added the disgruntled official.
However, a source from the home ministry says that the matter will be resolved once the PM comes back from the USA.
