Malaysia will revert to G2G Plus recruitment system allowing all Bangladeshi recruiting agencies to send workers to the Southeast Asian country, says a Bangladesh official.
The decision came from a joint working group meeting in Malaysia on Tuesday between a Bangladesh delegation and Malaysian officials, said Abul Hasanath Humayun Kabir, a joint secretary of the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.
Kabir, who serves as the PS to Minister Nurul Islam, said it was agreed that all legitimate Bangladeshi recruitment agencies will be able to send workers through the G2G Plus system.
On the issue of hiring workers on calling visas, he said that the Malaysian officials responded positively.
Malaysian regulations allow workers from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan to apply for calling visas upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur airport.
“They process of legalising the status of irregular Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia is also likely to kick off soon,” he said.
In August, Mahathir Mohammed-led new Malaysian government in an order halted the G2G Plus system after about two and a half years of its execution.
The order took effect from Sept 1.
Malaysia’s decision came following a huge controversy over the G2G Plus, a labour recruitment mechanism under which about 200,000 Bangladeshi workers migrated to Malaysia since 2016.
