The children of Freedom Fighters have demanded the continuation of 30 percent freedom fighter quota following a govt-formed panel’s suggestion to abolish almost all the quotas in civil service recruitment.
They made the demands on Saturday (Sept 22) in front of Press Club at an event organized by ‘Amra Muktijoddhar Shontan.’
The government formed a committee on Jul 2, 2018 to evaluate the quota system following a nationwide protest by students and jobseekers demanding reforms to the quota system.
The seven-member committee led by Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam concluded that merit-based recruitment should be prioritised in civil service.
The speakers at the rally said that the review committee’s request is an attempt to denigrate the sacrifices that the freedom fighters made for Bangladesh.
They asked for the prime minister’s interference in the matter, saying that a memorandum stating their demands will be sent to her on Sunday (Sept 30).
