Obaidul Qauder was speaking at the launch of an online petition to the Canadian prime minister for the extradition of the killers.
The petition is a joint initiative by Gourob 71, Canada AL and Movement for Deportation of Killer Nur Chowdhury to Bangladesh.
All petitions can be lodged at the following site:

Regarding the six fugitive killers, Obaidul Qauder, said: “the call to extradite them is getting louder; Rashed Chowdhury is in the USA and we are carrying on talks with the US administration to have him deported. A case has also been lodged.
“Canada does not have the death penalty or cannot send anyone residing in Canada to face a trial which may result in a death sentence; however, Bangladesh has lodged a case in Canada to relax that law and have Nur Chowdhury extradited.”
I have repeatedly asked the BNP about the people who gave indemnity to the killers of Bangabandhu but never got an answer, said the veteran AL politician, renewing the question to BNP.
Former foreign minister and AL’s joint general secretary, Dipu Moni, said: “a civil country like Canada cannot be a refuge for self-confessed assassins.”
After killing 18 persons, including ten-year-old Russell, they have been leading a free life for 43 years, she lamented.
“Firstly, Canada will have to take the initiative to return the killer to face justice and uphold Canada’s commitment in defending human rights; secondly, it has to be ensured that killers are not allowed to lead normal lives.”
They should be in jail, asserted the former foreign minister.
Bangabandhu KillersOn 15 Aug, 1975, the then president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family were ruthlessly gunned down by a group of rogue army personnel; Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana survived since they were overseas at that time.
Following a trial which was opened after a long hiatus, five persons convicted of being involved in the killing were hanged in 2010; one person died in Zimbabwe and six are absconding.
They six fugitives are: Abdur Rashid, Shariful Huq Dalim, M Rashed Chowdhury, SHM Nur Chowdhury, Abdul Majed and Risaldar Moslemuddin. INTERPOL red notice was issued against them.
Of them, Nur Chowdhury is in Canada and M Rashed Chowdhury in USA, conformed National Central Bureau, NCB.
