Mobile banking transactions hit nearly Tk 10b daily

Mobile banking transactions have hit Tk 9.94 billion daily on an average, Finance Minister AMA Muhith told parliament.
He revealed the figure on Thursday while responding to a question by ruling MP Shamsul Haque Chowdhury.
The finance minister said, “Nearly 36 million people among 64 million clients make regular transactions through mobile financial services (MFS).”
Responding to another question from a lawmaker, Muhit informed the parliament that government received pledges of $ 14612.18 million foreign donations in the 2017-18 fiscal year with $6290.75 million already received.
In response to a different query, the finance minister also said that the total number of companies listed in the capital market stands at 306 at present with 44 among them in the Z category.
Muhith also told the parliament in reply to another query that a universal and sustainable pension scheme aimed for service holders in the private sectors will be implemented on a trial basis in this fiscal year.
During the question-answers session presided over by the House Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, State minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid revealed the amount of electricity bills in arrears.
He told parliament that, electricity bills in the amount of over Tk 6.68 billion is due in government institutions while Tk 7.69 billion is due among semi-government and private sectors.
According to figures by the minister, the home ministry has the most amounts of electricity bills unpaid, which is approximately Tk 95.33 billion.
