The government is considering forming an independent commission to identify the masterminds of the 1975 assassination of Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina told the parliament.
During Wednesday’s question-and-answer session, she said, “Several facts have been unearthed over conspiracies before the Bangabandhu assassination as the Awami League was in office for two consecutive terms.
“It has been found that some local and foreign individuals, as well as agencies, were involved in the conspiracy to kill Bangabandhu. The government is actively considering to form a commission to identify the masterminds,” Hasina said responding to query by ruling MP Md Abdullah.
She said the process to bring back fugitive convicts of Bangabandhu murder is ongoing.
“An inter-ministerial committee is overseeing the matter... The Federal Court of Justice in Canada has been moved for information on fugitive convict Noor Chowdhury. Legal, as well as diplomatic initiatives, have been opened to repatriate convict Rashed Chowdhury from the US. A legal counsel has been appointed there (in the US),” said the prime minister.
Interpol red corner notices have been issued for the other absconding death row convicts, she added.
