The trial run of the container train from India to Bangladesh has been flagged off on Tuesday.
General Manager of Eastern Railways of India and high officials of CONCOR flagged off the train from Majerhat station in Kolkata to Bangabandhu Setu West station in the morning, the Indian High Commission said in a statement.
The train will enter Bangladesh through Chuadanga’s Darsana border and expected to reach the Bangabandhu Setu West Rail Station in Sirajganj on Wednesday, it said.
The Indian High Commission said the trial run was the outcome of the signing of an MoU between Container Company of Bangladesh Limited (CCBL) and Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India last year.
Transportation of goods through container trains is likely to be a faster and cheaper option for businesses of the neighbouring countries.
