New physicians will have to serve in rural areas of the country for at least three years before they can avail a transfer, said Health and Family Welfare minister Mohammed Nasim.
“It will be made compulsory for the 7000 medical doctors, who will be recruited by October-November,” the senior Awami League leader said at an event held in a Dhaka hotel on Wednesday.
Nasim said, “Those who have become doctors today, are the children of farmers; they are the children of general people. So, their first task will be to serve those masses living in our villages. They must gain experience from working in rural areas.”
Recalling the recruitment of 6000 physicians after taking charge of the ministry, Nasim said that he instructed the doctors to serve two years on that occasion, but many left before they were supposed to.
“When I was informed that 3000 doctors take salaries without doing anything, I instructed to suspend their monthly remunerations. They stopped coming for their pay, because they don’t want their present workplaces to be revealed,” the minister added.
