Authorities have moved to remove the waterlogging problem in the Bangabahaban and the Secretariat as well as its adjacent areas.
In a bid to initiate the necessary projects, the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), under which jurisdiction of the two most important state establishments fall, sat for two times on Jan 10 and Apr 9 this year.
With the help of other government agencies, the DSCC took separate decisions at its meeting to solve the waterlogging problem in the Bangabhaban and the Secretariat.
“We’ve taken several decisions in coordination with Dhaka WASA, Housing and Public Works and Bangladesh Railway authorities,” DSCC Secretary Shahabuddin told Bangla Tribune.
Decisions on Bangabahaban waterlogging problem include lowering the level of the roads surrounding Bangabahaban, separating connection to express drainage lines, increasing the capacity of the neighbouring water pump in Gopibag and equalizing the underground levels between of Segunbahicha and Kamlapur Railway culverts.
Decisions on Secretariat waterlogging problem include deposing rainwater to the pond in Osmani Udyan, constructing a water body in the west side of the Secretariat to preserve rainwater, constructing drain surrounding the Secretariat and installing pumping station to dispose water.
The authorities have already implemented some of the decisions, said Shahabuddin.
